This is a senior management position within the T&D Business Unit of a major Canadian engineering firm with a long history of success in the Energy sector. The successful candidate will participate in setting the direction and strategy for a growing domestic and international business to support the overall strategy of the T&D business unit. The key accountabilities of the Global Lead will include: • Providing engineering leadership to a multi-disciplinary group of engineers, designers and technologists specialized in design of high voltage transmission line projects. Resource pools exist or are planned in company offices in Canada, the USA and South America. • Managing the process of Lines Engineering commitments (in accordance with project scope, schedule, budget and procedures) to ensure successful project completion. • Resolving overall design/project execution issues, as required. • Developing the lines engineering group with a long term perspective. This will include staffing, mentoring, training, career development, succession planning, and resource utilization/planning • Establishing and implementing improvements to existing methods, procedures and toolsets, including staff training and development in lead-edge technologies. • Maintain on-going liaisons and relationships with Clients of transmission line projects • Represent the company in relevant professional organizations • Business Development and proposal preparation as required • Implement QA/QC processes to ensure high quality products from the transmission line engineering teams
• 20+ years of professional experience in the design and execution of EHV AC transmission line projects at voltages of 345 kV or higher • Experience in design of overhead HVDC transmission lines and experience in design of underground and submarine transmission projects would also be a significant asset • A Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or Electrical Engineering with extensive civil/structural design experience) from a recognized institution. • Registered as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian Province. Persons with strong international experience who demonstrate eligibility for registration as a P. Eng. in Canada will also be considered • Knowledge of National and International codes and standards related to EHV AC and HVDC transmission lines including OH&S Regulations, CSA/ANSI and IEC. • Significant construction experience of high voltage transmission line projects is required • International experience considered an asset. • Extensive working experience with power utilities and transmission companies is an asset • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communications skills in English is a must. Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable
