Job Summary:

Our client in the Mississauga/Toronto, Ontario region is looking for a Director for their Environmental Remediation & Risk Assessment group to join their team!

This individual will be the main contact for remediation, risk assessment projects, and brownfields marketing initiatives, while growing and developing remediation and risk assessment activities for the group.

Job Duties:

Strategic Planning
•    Lead the strategic business planning process for remediation, risk assessment and brownfield redevelopment
•    Secure buy-in and engagement from all staff on business goals
•    Support Operations Managers in achieving their business goals
•    Create project plans to achieve goals
•    Identify & implement ways to develop Remediation & Risk Assessment capabilities
•    Developing & directing key Government Relations strategies and activities as they relate to remediation policies, guidelines and regulations
•    Support other offices in their strategic initiatives

Training and Mentoring of Staff
•    Ensuring the well-being and safety of employees at assigned work sites
•    Performance measurement and discipline
•    Ensuring proper equipment is assigned to each employee
•    Coordinating group resources, including employee allocation, equipment control and maintenance, vacation scheduling, weekend resources, etc.
•    Providing technical assistance and mentoring to employees under supervision
•    Liaise between clients and employees

Client Development and Marketing
•    Developing & implementing key marketing and business development strategies
•    Planning & coordinating promotional activities/events for the group
•    Performing direct client marketing and site visits
•    Meeting with clients to determine clients’ requirements
•    Preparing proposals for clients
•    Maintaining long term & high commitment client relationships
•    Cross selling of other services to prospective clients
•    Representing the company in a professional & courteous manner

Financial Involvement in Projects
•    Preparing and negotiating proposals and contracts with prospective and existing clients
•    Holding managers accountable to ensure projects are performed on budget
•    Timely processing of invoices, review of employee timesheets and charges on projects, modification of pre-bills and approval of bills
•    Profit/Loss analysis of the respective service areas
•    Effective management of work in progress (WIP) to ensure work is billed accurately and on a timely basis
•    Providing assistance to collection employees in resolving problems related to invoices
•    Preparing invoices on a timely basis in line with company requirements, and to the satisfaction of the client

Overseeing Remediation & Risk Assessment Consulting Projects
•    Assigning work to Project Managers/Managers as appropriate
•    Preparing contract documents to company standards
•    Arranging for/supervising remedial projects
•    Providing clients with advice & educating on appropriate regulations and guidelines
•    Providing input & oversight on remedial projects to other offices

Maintaining Quality Control
•    Participating in all quality control initiatives
•    Reviewing the work of employees and colleagues to ensure it meets the standards established
•    Holding Operations Managers accountable to continually improve work quality


•    University Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution
•    15+ years of experience in leading environmental remediation and risk assessment projects in a consulting environment
•    P.Eng or P.Geo Designation
•    PMP Designation preferred
•    Extensive experience with environmental site assessments, remediation, compliance audits, risk assessments, estimating, and scope development
•    Track record of attracting new business, developing the existing client base, and recognizing new market opportunities
•    Proven ability to communicate with various stakeholders and clients
•    Ability to provide staff with effective guidance and mentorship
•    Prior experience managing large projects
•    Exceptional attention to detail
•    Deadline driven and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
