•    Degree or diploma in trade, planning, or construction, or at least 5 years of experience

Job Summary:

Our client, located in Stoney Creek, Ontario is looking for a Construction Estimator with low-to-mid-rise residential experience to join their team.

Job Duties:

• Capture all the factors that can influence quantity (time and material), update schedule regularly, and refer to it to develop accurate estimates at the outset of each project
• Allow for wasted materials, inclement weather, shipping delays, and other factors that may increase costs within reason
• Provide detailed quantity estimates to be costed using costing rates
• Prepare accurate, detailed estimates / takeoffs for Residential building projects
• In accordance with the Ontario Building Code, make basic computations/calculations to determine layout of charts, strength of materials and requirements for structural design
• Maintain a database of supplier and product information including contact information, terms, shipping charges, delivery lead time, volume discount levels, performance rating, historic unit rate, and costing information, etc.
• Regularly solicit prices from suppliers in order to update current and historic unit rate
• Capture all the factors that can influence rates, update schedule regularly, and refer to it to develop accurate costing
• Adjust for external conditions - interest rate, exchange rate, general economic conditions, future cost of material and labour over the lifespan of the project
• Analyze delivery costs and work toward elimination of vendor minimum charges
• Understand how the company’s operational costs contribute to the overhead rate, to be applied on material, to ensure the company is selling profitably
• Regularly communicate with President & CEO, Construction Director and Sales, any changes to the cost book
• Propose and utilize various mark-up rates that relate to the scope and nature of the project, and type of upgrade
• Provide Sales with a pricing list for Sales and Décor booklet for each community by project opening
• Respond to Sales & Décor inquiry of all purchaser extras and amendments


• Degree or diploma in trade, planning, or construction, or at least 5 years of experience.
• 2+ Experience developing construction request for proposals
• Extensive knowledge of the homebuilding and/or construction Industry
• 2+ years’ experience designing homes and structures
• Considerable experience working with trades and experience negotiating items on trade contracts
• Thorough understanding of Tarion standards and processes and of Residential Ontario Building Code
• Able to develop a 3 year plan, budget targets, forecast revenue, and actively minimise expenditure to achieve target
• Able to recommend and control expenditure of significant amounts of money within budget as a regular part of duties
• Experienced in the interpretation and writing of legal contracts and agreements
• Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software / system, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, MS Access, MS Project, and AutoCad
