Data Centre & Mission-Critical Construction Recruitment

Data centre & mission-critical construction recruitment — building the AI economy.

The AI build-out is, before anything else, a construction and engineering project — and the talent to deliver it is scarce. PHM recruits the people who design, build and commission data centres and mission-critical facilities: electrical and mechanical MEP, commissioning, and the project leadership that brings them online.

Why this hire is hard

The building is no longer the hard part.

Alberta has roughly 19,565 megawatts of data centre connection requests sitting against a grid whose all-time peak demand is about 12,800, and the province has capped what it will connect in this first phase at 1,200. So the binding constraint on a Canadian data centre is not the shell, the steel or the schedule — it is the power allocation, and the people who can win one are not construction people at all. Hiring for the build and hiring for the connection are two different searches, and firms routinely run only the first.

What it costs while the seat is open

In mission-critical construction a commissioning error is not a punch-list item. It is a customer outage, a contractual penalty, and a reference you will not get.

How we run it instead

Our data centre and mission-critical recruiters cover both halves — the people who deliver a live facility, and the people who secure the power to run it — tested against the projects they name.

What we recruit for

From site engineers to project directors.

A focus area we’re actively building — real and growing depth across the data centre and mission-critical construction disciplines, and the same search rigour on every mandate. A sample of the work and the projects we recruit for:

Recruiting on the utility side of the connection? That work sits with our power and grid engineering team.

Levels from project and MEP engineers and commissioning agents through superintendents, project managers, senior PMs, construction managers, and project directors.

How we engage

Exclusive contingency.

Retained-level rigour, on an exclusive basis, for a fee paid on the hire — no upfront retainer and the delivery risk on us. We also work standard contingency where a role suits it. How we engage →

Because we don’t run volume, an exclusive mission-critical mandate gets our full bandwidth — and we’re driven to deliver in less time than industry norms.

Where mission-critical teams work

Hyperscale, colocation, and AI infrastructure.

Hyperscale & AI infrastructure

The largest data-center programs — the power, cooling, and delivery teams building capacity for the AI economy at speed.

Colocation & developers

Colocation providers and data-center developers — preconstruction through delivery and commissioning.

Mission-critical & enterprise

Enterprise data centres and other mission-critical facilities where uptime is non-negotiable.

Common questions

Data Centre & Mission-Critical recruitment, answered.

What data centre and mission-critical roles do you recruit for?

The specialties and levels are listed above. We recruit them for consultancies, owners, contractors and industrial employers across Canada and the USA.

What does 'mission-critical' construction mean?

Facilities where downtime is unacceptable — data centres first and foremost, but also other critical infrastructure. It demands specialists in redundant power, cooling, and rigorous commissioning, which is exactly the talent we recruit.

Do you work on a retained or contingency basis?

Exclusive contingency: the same process a retained firm runs, without the retainer. We are paid when the hire is made, so the risk of not delivering is ours.

Can you help us hire fast enough for an AI-driven build-out?

That’s the point of our model — an exclusive mandate gets our full bandwidth and typically delivers faster than industry norms. In a market where data-center talent is scarce, speed is risk reduction.

Where do you recruit data centre talent?

Across Canada and the United States. We’re headquartered in London, Ontario, Canada and work on-site where it counts and remote-fluent by design.

Are the best mission-critical roles even advertised?

Rarely. The strongest data-center and mission-critical people are in demand and rarely on the open market — they’re reached through direct search, into openings that never surface publicly.
